UPDATE 2/7/08- The new email from M Smerdon is now gone. (Thanks Codysmom) If it was necessary to complete progress, why did they put it up and then take it down? Your guess is as good as mine. Happy Lost Day, Everyone!!! Jess
There's a new mail on Sam's computer (thanks Maven for mailing about this). It's text reads as an error but it's sender is Mark Smerdon.
We've seen the name M Smerdon before on Talbot's cell phone along with the number 259 194 032. Is this mail really just a progress place-holder, or is something afoot?

I hope something is afoot. Does anyone remember there being a blank email in your progress chart before this? I don't, but then again, I didn't really check it when we finished last week.
No Maven, there wasn't an empty one, this e-mail shows up and there is an extra one, but there was not a blank one there previously.
The e-mail reads
"this email exists solely as a fake to force the progress screen to have the correct number of blocks."
So we get a fake email and a completed prgress block for nothing... something best be afoot...Damn it!
Sorry, meant Memphish.*****
Ded: Notice though that on the main page, the mail is sent by a name we saw on Talbot's phone. Either they used real Hoodlum employee names in the game or something is really happening.
they will torture us for that username and password won't they? well, they sure got me trying a bunch of different variations on Mark Smerdon and his phone number.
i sure hope the payoff is worth it...
Don't know what to think about this. Great find on the Mark Smerdon name being on that phone list. Maybe it is just employees of Hoodlum. I think the Tracey R. was definitely an employee's name.
It is weird that the email blocks were correct. I don't get why this was done...the # of emails and blocks matched up before. And why would they mention "game" stuff in the game itself?
You might want to check out Mark Smerdon's facebook entry - 6 other names from Talbot's phone are listed as his friends.

Hi all. I remember back in-between chapter 2 and 3 (I think) an email turned up (I believe one of the code emails) and it didn't appear due and didn't have any boxes on the progress bar. It seems this is just the fix for it. But you never know. At the least it shows someone is paying attention to the site.
didn't appear due to it being between chapters. I missed the end of that sentence. Lol.
I just think it was either a f*ck up or a really daft way of going about things on their part.

Okay yes Tracey R. is indeed the name of someone that works for Hoodlum. I also checked out that Facebook and with 28 friends ALL in Aus. it's likely that Hoodlum just shouts out to the "team" in the game. But sheesh THAT'S JUST DUMB. Obviously someone at Hoodlum is not paying attention to how much we ARE paying attention!
Also, what a strange subject for that email. It makes no sense. Why not put something like "THIS IS A FAKE EMAIL". LOL.
I was never missing any emails, but if there were one missing, why not go into the program and delete the box???
Just seems like a very vague, round about way of doing that.
Am i the only one that thinks (against best hopes) that this really is over? I think the Maxwell re-design is the same reason as the find 815 re-design, to make it look spoofy to all the newcomers. It's kinda irritating to have invested 5 weeks to find out NOTHING. So similar to that Rachel Blake ending.... Mittlewerk saying something like "you've won the battle, but not hte war"... I was sure that during that weird hiatus mid-season last year, we'd get part 2, but no.
I think tomorrow night's episode could give us more information about whether or not this is over. I'm just guessing basing on the title of the episode.
And I don't think we found out NOTHING. We found out the details of them finding the plane in a trench off Bali which was a one-liner thrown deep into a late S3 episode. This was much more of a flesh out of how that might have occurred. It also gives us some story of another 815er without the pain of having to watch Nikki and Paolo.
So while the Find815 game didn't give us tons, not that I ever thought it would, it gave me something to do to ramp up to S4 and told me what the heck Naomi had been referring to. Why people aren't freaked that it's so off course, who Talbot really works for, how the freckage got there? Yeah, I still want to know, but I think those may be big enough mythology questions that they may come out of the show rather than a peripheral game.
I second what Memphish said!
The subject of that email reminds me of lines of code that are for debug purposes - it means something like "If you see this, it's broken". I think it was an eamil that wasn't supposed to actually show up in the display. It was there to hack around an off-by-one error that probably should have been fixed a dfferent way. I'm betting that it will disappear sometime tomorrow.
Spoiler alert. Doc Jensen's tease of 4.2. There is mention of the game. If you want to know nothing skip page one and the last question on page 3 or save the article until after the episode. Page 2 has a nice interview with Jorge, and page 3 has some viewer mail.
lostit, it appears you are right; the e-mail is now gone
I can't believe that email is gone now. LOL
All I know is I will be watching like a hawk tonight for more clues. hehehe
I think they did that on purpose.
You know if they were going to fix blocks and emails. They should have done that back at the end of Chap. 2 or maybe the begining of Chap. 3. I can't remember when I noticed it.
In Chap. 2 they deleted an entire email that Sam sent to Tracey. The subject was Yes another favour...please ;) It was about how he got on the Christiane 1 by fixing the chart plotter and to find out what she could about Talbot and how the black rock search is going and asks if she's losing her touch.
Her return mail was titled You owe me big time and the first sentence was Watch it first mate. But later the subject changed to Watch it first mate.
And the first sentence was removed but the rest of the email was the same. They must have removed that block the same time they removed the email or it would still be out of sync.
