The Lost Experience 2 - The Start

Looks like things have actually kicked off on the long awaited and often rumored second Lost Altered Reality Game. Rumors were it was canned due to the writers strike, but it seems that wasn't true. The official launch date would seem to be New Years Eve 2007. I guess there won't be a lot of people researching that night! Anyway, I intend to keep it simple here just to give people a place to reference and to discuss while the "scene" gets organized.

So in traditional Bullet Point fashion:

  • The website flyoceanicair.com has appeared containing an advert for the site and a link to a press release (there was also an advert in Lost magazine).
  • The press relate states that the company will be starting up again December 31st (presumably 2007, lol).
  • The press release also states that they will be flying to the following destinations:
    1. Los Angeles, CA
    2. Tustin, CA
    3. Ames, IA
    4. Miami, FL
    5. New York, NY
    6. Portland, OR
    7. Knoxville, TN
    8. Seoul, South Korea
    9. Sydney, Australia
  • At the bottom of the press release there is a telephone number: "Georgia Cavanagh (818) 460-5520"
  • Calling this number gives you a brief message about the website opening and asks you to leave your name, number and time of calling (don't answer machines tell you that?).
The only other information in the press release is a comment about being around for 25 years (they don't say how much of that they were shut down) and that they are a major carrier travelling to destinations including Los Angeles, London, Sydney and South Korea (which begs the question: Why don't they fly to London anymore?).

UPDATE: Speaker has posted a video building things up even more, mentioning an unnatural fog, the Oceanic site and making a mention about keeping your eyes open, having a camera with you and taking screen shots.

Thanks Fenris for setting this up, this is exciting and nothing has even happened yet. :-}

I guess we have to wait and see if Speaker will rev up again.

Fenris said...

My pleasure :)

I had a message from speaker (well bulletin actually) to say to keep an eye on http://www.evilpuppetmasters.com/ and his youtube page http://youtube.com/profile?user=insidetheexperience

He said he would possibly have something big soon. Hasn't posted yet, but I'd keep an eye on them tomorrow/today. I haven't put those links in there yet though just incase he's not talking about the ARG.

Good job Fenris, I especially like the header graphic. Thanks for putting this together at almost 3 am your time!

Fenris said...

Hah! Stop being so Modest!

Ange did the header graphics and it rocks. Best part of the site really :)

Right I'm going to bed now. See you all tomorrow!

Thanks Fenris
This is great of you to set this up. I've already have Speakers sites saved and will be checking in on them reguarly. I hope his news has something to do with a new ARG.

maven said...

Yeah for Fenris (and Ange)! I guess we're all holding our breaths for tomorrow.

BTW: When I get on the FlyOceanicAir site, it's like it's "stuck" and won't run the commercial. What am I doing wrong?

Also, does this mean that TLC is not going to cover this development for a possible TLE2?

FYSB said...

Woohoo! A new game! Hi all, thanks Fenris and Ange for starting this up.

One observation...the press release lists some pretty random cities for an international airline...Anes Iowa? Knoxville TN (sorry capcom). Clues, code? Also London is listed in the bottom of the press release but not in the list. Hmmm. One would think London would be a more compelling destination.

Happy New Year!

FYSB said...

Oh and one other thing, Wiki says John Locke lived/worked in Tustin, (population 70,000)

Ange said...

Maven said...Also, does this mean that TLC is not going to cover this development for a possible TLE2?
I think Fenris is only intending to give us a place since TLC post is over 200 comments and no one has heard from an admin. over there. Actually though it's nice to have a central location for right now.

fysb said...Also London is listed in the bottom of the press release but not in the list.
London is also pictured as one of the backgrounds in the Oceanic commercial on their site. Shell said it last night at TLC that the time looks to be 2:30, so I wonder if maybe something will go down at 2:30 today, London time, which would be in about an hour and 1/2 from right now (As of 8AM there is no change to flyoceanic.com).

Well kids...going to get coffee anfd hit F5 on Oceanic a kabillion times!

Ange said...

Okay also just checked my e-mail. Did anyone else get a Happy New Year e-mail from Tropic Travel in Yangon, Myanmar? I remember there being something about Tropic Travel from TLE, but I can't remember if it was in-game or not. Also I have no idea how I ended up on their spam list if it's just a random mail.

memphish said...

I think all of these destinations are character linked. Also is there an airport in Tustin? There was a Marine Corps air station there back when I lived in SoCal, but John Wayne would have been the closest commercial airport, and it's not in Tustin. Also is there a character linked to NYC? Knoxville is Sawyer and Iowa is Kate. Hurley, Jack, Sayid, Locke are all LA area. NYC is Rose and Bernard I guess. Miami is Juliet. Seoul - Sun and Jin. Portland would be Ben. Oh yeah NYC is Michael and Walt too.

Thanks Fenris and Ange for the place.

Ange said...

Hey memphish! Yeah, Lostpedia says Rose is from The Bronx so I think it's safe to assume that NYC applies to her. Also it's where Michael gave Walt his polar bear.

As for Tustin...The City of Tustin homepage says nothing about an airport. Also, their Legacy of Development mentions that the military base you mentioned is being re purposed as schools, parks, and shopping.

Why would a commercial airline say they fly to a place that has no airport? Good eye Memphish!

memphish said...

Thanks Ange. I'm relying on all of you to keep me up to date through these opening stages. I'm on the iPhone, so I'm limited in my viewing and researching ability. I'll be back on the PC on the 3rd.

shellma said...

I agree Memphish! I think the destinations are definately linked to characters!
And thanks again Fenny and Ange for this, we needed it. And iI think we should definately have separate blogs for the game and the show. Just too confusing otherwise.

Capcom said...

Hey all, just postioning myself in the queue for whatever's going to happen today. :-)

No offense FYSB, heheh. I ain't from Knox, I just ended up here by fate. But it HAS been a point of story reference for the X-Files, the Simpsons, and LOST. :o) I'll be on the ready to drive to the airport to see if there are any clues there for us!

Puh, figures, if there was a Tuston military base it probably got mothballed during the '90s, but it's good that they are able to turn around for civilian purposes. Sorry, just a sore point for me.

shellma said...

Sayid'sgirl was asking a question over on the book club blog that I have been asking myself for quite some time. How could they "find the plane with all dead"? Who made that happen? Why? How are they going to explain the "survivors" now? I smell Joop poop! ;)
It could spin off in so many different directions........ugh!

maven said...

Well, Tustin is just a suburb in Orange County and has no airport associated with it. The closest one is John Wayne Airport which serves Orange County. It would not be a destination advertised by an airline! So obviously, these cities are character connected.

shellma said...

So this thing with Speaker...
Telling us to keep an eye on evilpuppetmasters.com and youtube.com/profile?user=insidetheexperience. On eveilpuppetmasters, he lists the cities OA will fly to and then asks if anyone lives in those cities. Do we need peeps there?

Ange said...

In Speaker's new YouTube video he specifically says, "Keep making screen shots."

Know what, I think that's important. Only, screenshots of what? Anyone notice any changes on flyoceanic? It might look like the time on Big Ben is different than this morning, but it might just be the screen on my laptop vs. the screen on my other computer. This morning it said 2:30.

PS: Links added Jess

Capcom said...

I'm here! Gonna go brush my teeth and get dressed now so I'm ready. Maybe I should print out a copy of the ABC/Oceanic press thing so they don't think that I'm (too much of) a nut at the airport if I have to ask about it.

Joop-poop, I love it! That's the new "shenanigans"!!! :-D

Capcom said...

All I get on Oceanic now is the logo.

shellma said...

Ange: it looks pretty much the same to me.
Capcom: It's playing for me.

Capcom said...

OK, it's working for me now too.

As an aside, it seems as if Oceanic only wants to lure men (or whomever) who like young female "America's Next Top Model" types to their airlines. How's about a nice lookin' man in the commercials, Oceanic? :o)

jess4ua said...

OH GOODY Capcom!!!! Don't forget your camera...

Yeah Ange, the screenshot thing stuck out for me too. Maybe there is something hidden in the flyoceanicair video today?

Fenris said...

Yes I was wondering if Oceanic was going to have a short change to something different and they were expecting someone to take a shot of it. I dunno.

Fenris said...

If you just get the logo, right click and select play. When I did that it tried to play the video slightly off the screen and several times over the top of itself. I'd say that was just a bug though, nothing special.

If you want the page back to normal just refresh.

Twinkle said...

Yeah, I watched it and when I went back the commercial didn't play. Then I F5'ed and it did. Must set a cookie if you already viewed it. Thanks, Fenris, for your site!

What I find creepy about the Oceanic website are the headers:

PLACES YOU'VE ONLY IMAGINED
IN YOUR WILDEST DREAMS
YOUR ULTIMATE DESTINATION
FLY OCEANIC TODAY

Uuummm... ok. So it sounds like the Others have taken Oceanic over and are using it as their personal shuttle service to bring people to Lost island where you can come but never leave (without being scarred for life). "Ultimate" is an interesting choice of words. Ben's tropical hotel California. This isn't a theory, just a creepy feeling.

maven said...

I can only get the site to work in IE. It remains "stuck" when I run it on Firefox.

What I'm seeing now is a smaller logo in the upper left. The print keeps changing between: Oceanic Airlines is Flying Again, Places you've only imagined in your wildest dreams, Your Ultimate Destination. It's not the video, only these phrases.

Twinkle said...

the word verification was just inofg or unscrambled...da da dum... IN FOG

I'm starting to see things!

Capcom said...

Someone on DarkUFO said that the latin origin of the word ultimate means final, or end. If true, it does make it sound as though someone has designs on taking people to their final destination of servitude on Mysterious Island!

maven said...

Well, isn't Jack looking for his "Ultimate Destination" in his FF?

Capcom said...

Interesting Maven, will Jack go to over to the "Dark Side" and come to actually work with/for Oceanic? That would certainly get him back to the island, if Oceanic has access. But I guess I'm getting ahead of everything till we know more about this new Oceanic restart.

ib4uc said...

OK, so maybe it's just me but looking at Speaker's video, the sun is purple, almost like the 'purpling'. It probably nothing though...

Capcom said...

OK, I give up trying to comment on the Evil Puppetmaster blog. Is it delayed? Either none of my comments are going to show up from today since early a.m., or there will be 100 comments from me. :-p Embarassing.

My guess is that there will be skywriting in those cities today (fog, keeping your eyes open, having a camera) and that maybe they will begin running the Oceanic commercial on ABC tonight... maybe during Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve!

Dennis said...

There's something wrong with their site. I've tried posting comments there before and it never works. I've even emailed them about it but they were no help.

memphish said...

I've never been impressed with evilpuppetmasters. I'm kind of bummed they're involved.

maven said...

Dennis: I don't think we're going to get skywriting in the LA area today. It's soooo windy everywhere!

Fenris: Is there any way to disable the WV?

jess4ua said...

On the topic of fog........ One of speakers myspace sites says he is in Bessemer, Alabama. I am in Tuscaloosa, Al right now visiting family, which is about a half an hour from there. And it has been VERY foggy every morning. So I don't know if he is here recording videos or not, but it sure looks like it.
But skywriting would be FANTASTIC! hehehehe

maven said...

Dennis helped me with the problem I was having with the flyoceanicair site! It seems I needed to download the latest version of Adobe flash player! Now it works thanks to Dennis!

Fenris said...

I don't get the word verification. I think if you are logged in to blogger then you don't need to do it. But when I looked at the site via my mums computer a little while ago there was word verification, so I think it is just if your logged in or not.

I will look into it though.

It wouldn't surprise me if Speaker was doing the videos live and simply worked the fog thing into it. He does love to do his vids and the ability to improvise a bit is always helpful for an ARG (something they struggled a bit with last time). My instinct tells me the fog isn't relevant, except if it is sky writers it may make it hard to see. Lol.

I keep checking Oceanics site, but no changes yet.

Ange said...

Maven: WV is off. I just did it (Fenris said I could LOL).

I'm confused as to where to post. I noticed Dennis made a new post. Maybe as a group we need to come to a consensus as to whether to keep TLC as show related or posts for ARG and show? *shrug*

Happy New Year BTW!

maven said...

Thanks, Ange!

I know. I don't know what to do either...here or TLC? Dennis said he'd be around more as soon as Cloverfield debuts.

maven said...

Also: I do think that this Oceanic Air thing will be more show related that TLE was. Just a gut feeling...so it would be appropriate to keep it all together in one place over at TLC. Although, I do really appreciate you and Fenris starting this blog. Oh, the dilemma!

jess4ua said...

I think we should use this post for the ARG and TLC for the show. If the game does last eight weeks we will have overlapping. I think TLC would get too confusing with everyone trying to post about the ARG and the show. I personally would like to have two separate places to post, so I can get the info on whichever subject I am looking for at the time without having to sort through all of it! :D

jess4ua said...

I just read this over at

http://www.docarzt.com/

Actually, the purple sun isn't saying anything. I ran into speaker and he assures me the purple sun is a camera fluke and nothing more. It's not a wormhole.

Speaker himself maybe telling us something very important though. He tells us not only to make screen caps, which we geeks know all about, but also to "carry a camera." Are clues of the physical/billboard variety a fo sho? We'll soon find out.

Screen caps of what!!!
Carry a camera where!!!
Too many hours of thinking about this. hehehe

Fenris said...

Well the thing with Speaker is he occasionally does have random wormholes open up around him. There are these certain types of people that attract that kind of thing. So I never really thought it was part of the ARG. Although if I was Andy I would be on the lookout for strange wobbly diamond shaped things that take him to the killing fields of Rassalon.

Anyway, I would rather have a separate place to talk ARG rather then show, but I don't presume it should be here (I have my own show site and still post on TLC so I was never worried about that). However I am open to giving more people admin rights here if it makes things easier.

I'm rather like sunday morning with it all. :)

maven said...

I guess it makes sense to keep the ARG and show separate...unless they begin to intertwine. Who knows?

Happy New Year to all! Let's hope those media moguls come to their senses soon, and things can get back to normal!

I believe it's Fenris' birthday tomorrow. He's a New Year's Baby! Happy Birthday!

shellma said...

I agree with Fenris and Jess as before. T confusing. And what if there are spoilerish things...
I vote 2 blogs.

Capcom said...

I also vote for this blog for the bulk of the game. And Passafist said that the podcast was coming up soon, so then Dennis will be making a new thread for that too and the TLE2 one will get buried. But it was good that Dennis made a new thread this time, since the other one was getting a bit lengthy.

I guess that I will drive to the airport tomorrow and see if there are any billboards or posters up to take snapshots of in the areas where non-ticketed people can go.

maven said...

Good luck at the airport tomorrow, Capcom! I wouldn't even begin to know where to look around LAX! It's so huge!

Fenris said...

It's really not my Birthday tomorrow. I dunno where that has comes from. I actually share a birthday with Andy/Speaker on June the 8th.

Anyway, it's 1:32am here, so Happy New Year from England!

Doesn't look like anything new has cropped up yet, but while I can stay conscious (I've had a lot to drink as you can imagine) I will keep my eye out online.

shellma said...

hey, I just called the 818 number. I noticed at the bottom of the press release that there are 3 ### before the name and number. I called and pushed ### 3 times really fast and it gave me some voicemail options. I just hung up. I am not that familiar with those systems, but I know that people who are can navigate them well. It might be something, or it might be nothing....

Ok. I messed with it some and it seems you could "actually" access a mailbox if you had the mailbox # and the password.......

I've made a new post. I haven't got all the details yet as I'm still looking at them myself, but wanted to get the comments in the right place, so there we go!

Will update the post itself as I learn more. Yay!

and to think I was about to go to bed.

Ted said...

I think the destinations listed for Oceanic are also clues as to billboards. I noticed a brand new Oceanic Airlines billboard just off the 17th Street exit of the 55 Freeway in- you guessed it! Tustin this morning. I'll snap a picture tomorrow while I'm at work. I'd be willing to bet there are billboards in LA, Miami, and NYC at the least. Maybe not Ames or Seoul. Can anybody back this up?
