Chapter 1- Pack Sam's Bag

Click HERE for a picture of one of the solutions. This comes from commenter YONaTan at docartz.com. Click HERE for a video walk-through from DocArtz.

On ABC.com there is a game in the Lost section called Chapter 1- Pack Sam's Bag.
  • The goal is to help him pack for his trip to the Sunda Trench.
  • It's harder than it looks, and apparently there is more than one way to successfully pack the bag. All of the items to pack can also be found on Sam's desk at find815.com
  • Packing the bag gives you the password MATTHEW, although we aren't sure where it goes yet..
Thanks Maven for being the first to mention this in the comments. And to Maven and ib4uc for the password.

Thanks Maven. Just packed his bag and it gave me the clue "MATTHEW" and to take it to Find815.com to get an exclusive season 4 clue.

Nice!

One wonders why Sam just doesnt put some of those things in his pocket....he'd be on his way by now if he didnt have to wait for our help ;P

Kinetic said...

ahh ok. I take it there is nowhere to enter 'MATTHEW' yet?

ib4uc said...

kinetic... I haven't a clue as to where it goes. I guess we'll find tomorrow.

Thanks for the new post comment Ange. It's very helpful. Can someone report on the spoilery nature of the new S4 info before posting it? This game's going to mess with my spoiler-free lifestyle, isn't it?

Ange said...

I just updated the main page with the new things that are unlocked but still "missing" on find815.com. Good work people! Don't forget, you can e-mail me with new clues if you like, as I'm kinda all over the place today and not right at the computer.

Kinetic said...

I'm not sure if they are actually 'spoilers' per say , more like backstory for S4, since they are being released officially by abc.

Not sure yet.

maven said...

Well, I guess we have to wait for "Matthew" to show his face! LOL

I, too, hope whatever we're shown is not spoilery! Hopefully, it's just more backstory.

Forgot there was a new post....duh!
Kin!!!! Abster!!!!
Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
yeah..I thought the maxwell site was fuuny. When Jess and I were first messing around on find815.com, i saw that it wasn't registered yet. Then about 15 minutes later.....it was.
Thanks Mav for the ABC info!!!!

Sheesh they sure seem to be giving us a whole lotta words and nowhere to put them!

Hey Kin and Amber :D

The tsunami was the 26th. Not knowing the timeline for this ARG is frustrating. Wouldn't it be the case that the search for 815 was halted prior to its discover in the trench which predates Naomi's Island arrival? I think the ARG may be contemporaneous with the show as it opened in S1.

maven said...

I'm thinking the Sunda Trench has to be pretty important to the story. We know it's where the tsunami originated and that just might impact our Losties. Someone at DarkUFO said that S3 ended on Dec. 23, 2004 which is the date of the tsunami. Maybe it's coming for the start of S4?

Now why is Sam going there?

Kinetic said...

As far as we know, time is still funny on the island. So Naomis arrival could of happened at any moment in real time.

Ange said...

memphish said...I think the ARG may be contemporaneous with the show as it opened in S1.

I have to say that I agree or at least a few weeks after the initial crash, when the search was called off. So, yes before the Tsunami, and I think it's safe to assume that Sam is going there as he thinks that either:
a) That's where the plane went down
b) The reason for 815's disappearance originates in that area (ie. a company or group that wanted that plane gone for some reason).

I think the The-Maxwell-group.com site IS in-game. If you look at the source code, the page actually resides at http://www.find815.com/TMG/index.html

I find it impossible to arrange Sam's bag...

I hope Mittlewerk shows up in this somewhere along the line...

Dennis said...I think the The-Maxwell-group.com site IS in-game. If you look at the source code, the page actually resides at http://www.find815.com/TMG/index.html

You know, I saw that this morning. And also, why would an in-game site (find815) lead us to a specific link if it wasn't in-game?

It's just that the registration is so fishy coming 15 min. after the site went live and all. And godaddy? Really? You think they forgot to create the site and then had to use godaddy to get the domain name? I really don't get it.

Ange said...

Hey new video! Dark UFO is reporting it's on find815.com. I've not looked yet.

OK friends, I just returned from scouring Knox airport (McGhee-Tyson[TYS]) to no avail. I even asked the ladies in the gift shop if they had any idea where I might look, and they were helpful but I found nothing. I walked up and down the terminal, inside and out, for an hour and found zilch. There aren't even ANY roadside billboards on the stretch of highways around the airport, and that is very odd for Knoxville. The good thing was that it is a slow traffic day, so I could slow down and rubberneck all I wanted on the road.

Anyway, I have one more stop to check, if I can find out where it is. Technically, Knox airport is in Alcoa. There is some kind of airport connected to TYS on their website, called the Downtown Island airport that is actually in Knoxville I guess. So as soon as I Mapquest it, I will check it out. I don't know the area well enough to find it with just road names and no picture map.

Sorry that I came up with nothing so far. If I don't find anything Downtown (oh Lordy, I just realized the significance of that!) I will try again in a day or two.

Ange said...

Yeah nevermind, I got too excited, it's not new.

jess4ua said...

Capcom said: OK friends, I just returned from scouring Knox airport (McGhee-Tyson[TYS]) to no avail
Thanks for trying. That is frustrating....maybe they haven't put them all up yet?

I finally solved the puzzle(made myself carsick doing it, and of course the sun was on my screen no matter which way I turned). Hehehe

Dennis- thanks for the info on maxwell group. If it is a fake site, I will be upset with TPTB for giving us a site that they don't have registered.

Ellen said...

Hi Everyone!
I am still trying to "pack Sam's bag". I'm not good at spatial relationships I guess...any help?
Thanks and Namaste...
Ellen :)

maven said...

Thanks for trying, Capcom. I'm sure the LA people are having problems finding anything, too. (I heard nightmaremommie and tapdawg are looking.)

maven said...

I think it's so funny on the find815 site with the countdown clock. When you click over it it actually states "story continues in 29 hours and 10 minutes" (or whatever time it is). Like we couldn't figure out it was a countdown clock....LOL

Ange said...

Minnesota and Ellen: I can't get it either. I finally walked away, and will try later on.

If ib4uc or Maven would maybe e-mail me with where you put everything or a screen shot of the packed bag I can put it on the main page. :D

capcom: Thanks for your efforts! Maybe they haven't put all the boards up yet. It is a 5 week game. Was there anything in Time's Square last night on ABC's New Year's Rockin' Eve that we missed? I didn't happen to catch it on tv.

maven said...

FYI: DocArtz actually did a video with narration on how to pack Sam's bag. Very helpful.

lost2010 said...

The trick on packing the bag is to drag the item onto the grid and see how many squares it needs. There seem to be exactly enough squares to fit everything in - so if you put something in there beside something else and it leaves a blank square you've got it wrong. The key is to use those sort of l-shaped pieces and the small straight pieces to plug the holes after you get the bigger items in. It's like Tetris.

Does that make sense?

I'll try to pack it again if I have time and see if I can explain better.

Capcom said...

Thanks everyone, I just grabbed some food and am going to see if I can find the other Knox airport.

Funny treasure-hunt story from my trip: when I was explaining to the giftshop lady at TYS how I was looking for an Oceanic Airlines poster, she said, "Oh, I'm sorry, we don't service an Oceanic Airlines here." Heehee, and I explained to her that it was a fake airlines that ABC made up for the show. Then I thanked her for her help and for not calling Security on me. :o)

shellma said...

Alright....
Just give me a hint...
Does everyting fit perfectly, with no empty spaces?

maven said...

Here's the direct link at DocArtz as to how to pack the bag.

shellma said...

Um....
Helps if I refresh before posting I guess....

Ange said...

Thanks maven and lost2010 I added a still of one way to pack the bag to the main post. I think I'll add your link too Maven, THANKS!

Also, if we are to believe the Korean translation from the signs on the billboard in Portland, do you think billboards from all the cities will make up one big message. The translation seems a bit spoilery (not that I look at spoilers EVER but I've heard rumors) so I wonder if it's a pieced up message that we won't get all of until Season 4 starts.

maven said...

Ange: Notice I updated the link directly to the video.

Regarding the Korean translation: I know it says something that a lot of us have been trying to avoid seeing or knowing about. I don't think we can stay away now from the number 6. I think the billboards will continue to allude to this number. I don't want to say any more.

lost2010 said...

I've packed it a couple of different ways. As long as I put the ring box next to the sat phone, I see to be in pretty good shape. They sort of fit together

jess4ua said...

Ange-I posted the same thought about the billboards earlier.....hehehehe. So it MUST be true!!!!

Ange said...

Sorry Jess :S I'm a bit overwhelmed trying to keep up with this today.

Kinetic said...

I have to agree about TMG being in game now. Sorry for the alarm!

Was just so odd that it was registered that quickly after launch and like Ange said, at Godaddy. Probably an oversight when it launched and one of the webmasters said 'oh FRAK!'

Beverly said...

I'm wondering if the "pack sam's bag" game was released too early. It seems like it would be a "clue hunt" type of thing, but according to the "my progress" section, there are no clue hunts released yet (and, if the countdown clock is to believed, won't be until tomorrow). So I'm thinking there won't be anything to do with "MATTHEW" on that site until it is updated tomorrow - probably with a clue hunt released.

Kinetic said...

It's mentioned in the help file on find815.

Oh and HI JESS!!!

Boy they picked a hard week for me to play this game. I'm trying to find things and play wii with my daughter.
I'm going to abc and pack Sam's bag here in a bit.
But I've got a question to ask you guys. Was anyone else having trouble logging on to TLC,DarkUFO or this blog a couple of hours ago?
I kept getting a Google error. I won't go into the entire message but basicly it was saying my query looked similar to automated requests from a computer virus or spyware. And they'd restore access as quickly as possible.
I run my virus scan and found nothing. I had 3 cookies spyware that I deleted but it still wouldn't let me in.
But I'm back now so hopefully it wasn't anything serious.
Well I'm going to have to play more wii before I go pack Sam's bag. Also for some reason I still have 2 emails to find out of 3 and I know I found 2. Oh well I'm not to good at these games but they are fun. I guess I'll have to have DocArtz bail me out. :)
I'll check in later

Ange said...

E-mail us with clues at:
oceanicconspiracies@gmail.com

It's on the main page too.

Capcom said...

Ruh-roh, Mapquest shows this other FBO airport to be on the side of town that I am completely unfamiliar with, and links possibly to a seedy-ish area (so I'm told), if I get lost.

So since the sun is setting now, I hope that no one minds if I wait until tomorrow to check out the other site. I'm scared that I might get lost in the dark. Tx. :-)

Capcom said...

I didn't get any of those Blogger messages myself, Sayidsgirl. Sometimes when it can't connect I get weird Google errors that go away when I try again.

Wheres the party?

Fenris said...

Hehe, foolish me thinking they'd not drop anything else down on us on new years day.

Okay, so my take on this. I think that ABC are supplementing the story with some other bonus little bits, probably because of complaints last time that there wasn't enough show relative info. I suspect these bits will go on throughout but will not be vital for the main story.

We are kind of removed in this experience from the events happening. The time line is strange in that we appear to be interacting with the past, but also the way we are "assisting" Sam is more like playing an interactive adventure game then an actual ARG. For all her flaws I couldn't see Rachel Blake asking us to scan down an email for her for the only URL in it or ask us to help her pack a bag.

But that is fine, it's just a different approach and the reason they are doing this is probably because they want to make it a lot more involved with the show itself. I expect the time line will stay kinda hazy. I noticed in the Oceanic press release they didn't mention the year, just that it would be the 31st of December.

The Maxwell page seems legit if it's hosted at find815. They were just a bit sloppy in getting it active. It could have been a much bigger gaff, but they have gotten away with it I think and it's good that we are getting so vigilant in spotting fake sites these days.

Unless more billboards turn up I wouldn't expect anything else new until tomorrow now.

shellma said...

Leeeeeeeeeeeeenaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!

maven said...

Yea! Lena found us!

memphish said...

Dumb question, but where is DocArtz posting?

Capcom said...

Agreed Fenris.

BTW, did anyone catch the super-long promo for Lost last night during the countdown? Longest one I've ever seen yet.

Thanks I think, Kinetic, right? :-B

memphish said...

There have been lots and variuous lengths of promos during the bowl games today, but I haven't seen any game references.

Kinetic said...

Capcom - correct. adding sauce to anything just makes it better, so pwnsauce means you really pwn!

And /wave Fen and Lena!

I've been doing some poking around behind the scenes. Let me know if this isnt the place to post my findings.

DJ Lena said...

hehe my djlena.com site got over a 1,000 hits on the 29th!

Well, the old ARG stuff is still there (link at bottom) but as most know, its now political site.

Oh well, at least people are learning important things about our country!

:)

Kinetic said...

Has anyone found the flickr page mentioned in the help section yet? (thanks rxhector) Or is this not active?

http://www.find815.com/project/assets/conf/flickr_downloads.xml

None of those files exist yet.

I also agree with Fen. This really isnt an ARG. They break the 4th wall right off the bat. This is more of an interactive episode(flashback?)

memphish said...

Thanks for the info. I knew he wasn't at the Tail Section anymore and was too lazy to search on the phone.

memphish said...

I like that idea about an interacticve flashback Kin. I posted on my blog ages ago an idea about starting S4 with the crash from the perspective of those waiting on flight 815. I guess this might be that. I wonder if we'll encounter anyone we know from the show like Ana Lucia's mom or Zack and Emma's mom.

Kinetic said...

Ange: The line was so blurred in the original TLE, they seemed to beg "crack me" at times. (combine that with some horrible security measures and a 'hacker' named persephone) It wasn't until i found the back door that I knew we weren't supposed to go that route.

But a lil scanning never hurts ;p

maven said...

I'm all for you doing your things, Kinetic and Fenris and anyone else! Some of us need a lot of help!

I was just happy that I was able to pack the stupid bag all by myself! With TLE I just waited for you guys to figure it all out...Hey kinda like High School!

Kinetic said...

Ange said...

Dark UFO has some sound files for the whispers that you can hear on find815.com when scanning the e-mail. They are HERE if you'd like to have a listen. I'm not sure I can make anything of them yet.

Fenris said...

I'm no hacker. Lol. I'll leave that stuff to Kin. :)

Also Hi Kin, Lena, and everyone else that has joined us.

Btw, the whispers thing seems to me to be reversed. I've only been fiddling with stuff with Audacity (free software) as I'm not at home with all my pro stuff. But I'll see about cleaning it up.

Sounded to me like a hostile warning/threat telling Sam to back off.

Kimber said...

That bag was a fun activity. What is next?

Ellen said...

Thanks, Maven, everybody!
That was sooo helpful...you all are great, still!

memphish said...

Warning whispers huh? So any speculation yet as to who is "helping" Sam and who may be warning him off. My first guess would be that it was Mittelos helping him find the plane to protect the Island in which case the whispering may be the same as the Island whisperers who may or may not be aligned with the Hostiles.

jess4ua said...

Yeah, I still can't make anything out of that sound clip. If people are hearing actual words, maybe I need to get my hearing checked.

minnesotawriter said...

Maybe the whole godaddy thing relates to more advertising...

Kinetic said...

I'm probably shooting myself in the foot. But I don't think this is going to be the sponsor laden game that TLE was.

The first TLE was run by the original think tank who wanted to reveal info that they weren't able to within the confines of the show. It had an ABC blessing, but it was really an independent crew without much of a budget. They had to rely on outside sponsors to fund everything.

This is more of a really large Lost promo, that is actually backed, produced, and paid for by ABC/Disney. This really shows through with the videos. The acting and the production are WAY ahead of the campy videos from TLE.

I think the godaddy registration was just a bad oversight with one of the webmasters. They wanted to register it quick before anyone with bad intentions did.

maven said...

I agree with you Kin. I don't see sponsorship written all over this. This is way different that TLE. It's almost a little "Heroes" like (although I don't partake of that).

jess4ua said...

new stuff on flight815

maven said...

Thanks, Jess, for the heads up! I really don't know what we're supposed to "do". Just play along and watch or what? Just seems like they're doling out the story little by little.

maven said...

With all this emphasis on the Sunda Trench, are we to assume the 815 went down there? That would be way off course, wouldn't it? Or is a coverup by Oceanic or whomever?

Is Sam going to find the plane in the trench which would tie-in with Naomi's and Cooper's stories?

shellma said...

Yeah, Mav, I am forming the opinion that the island is somewhere in the Indian Ocean...
And remember...the pilot told Kate that they were over 1,000 miles off course....
