Chapter 3- Clue Hunt: Do you see the writing on the wall?

UPDATE 1/17 (3:20pm): Dark UFO has confirmed to us that OurMutualFriend42 is an "in game" character. So you might want to head over and check out the "interesting developments". Apparently they were given a code to break, which lead to this website: http://www.baliholidayfun.com/
There was an email address there that some people, after emailing of course, received a response from. The response had THIS hidden URL in it. That is all I know at this point, so check it out and see what you can come up with. Jess

UPDATE 1/17 (6:53am): Over at Dark UFO there are some interesting developments. I'm not sure what to make of this, but it's either really clever or an extremely elaborate wild goose chase. Have a look and decide for yourself. ~Ange

Sonya

Tonight's hunt begins with Sam looking over the edge of the Christiane 1. He hears radio static and other strange electrical sounds and goes into the ship's control room to investigate. There he sees weird things happening like flickering screens and strange electronic beeps and chirps.

  • Here, you can click on two monitors and hear Sam say things like, "I've never seen that before," etc...

Clue Hunt:

By clicking around in the room inside the ship we find our 4 season clues:

  • Virgin Mary- your season 1 clue
  • 108-your season 2 clue
  • submarine- your season 3 clue
  • Tunisian newspaper- your season 4 clue
    • Nirvana at DarkUFO is posting a possible translation for the text in the paper. (Thanks to Maven for the heads up on this.)

To view the season 4 clue, you are directed to ABC.com or Yahoo7 to find the password. There you play a game called Talbot's Search. In it, Sam needs to plot an unbroken course through Talbot's search grid without taking the same path twice.

  • There are 3 search grids to complete, and you basically have to connect the dots.
  • HINT- watch carefully when each search grid loads for a hint about where to start.
  • Passwords are here in hidden-ish text--> 36-15-28 or Charlotte Lewis
    • Click here for what could be more information on the second password. (Thanks to Pharmacopaeia for the Yahoo7 password.)

As we search for the four season clues you can see an image of Sonya on the wooden door in the cabin as well as some writing (Sayid's Girl and her daughter Sayid's Girl Jr. were keen to notice this is the e-mail Sam received with Sonya's picture in it). What could that be about, and what do those password numbers mean?

Repost: In the cabin, there's a ship's model behind the computer screen on the desk. Could that be the Black Rock? LOL

memphish said...

Here's the link to the ABC puzzle again. Off to watch Project Runway.

maven said...

So we have another name, too. Are these characters from S4?

BTW: Another great job, Ange! Thanks for the mention. You didn't have to do that.

Tess315 said...

Thanks for the link memphish but it doesn't work for me either. The one in the last post takes me to the red blast door map.
The one in this post just gives me a black screen.
I think I'll just re start my computer and start all over and see if that works.

Okay, so what was the deal with that engine room and being able to click on the monitors? Seems like they could have videoed Sam watching real equipment go crazy.

maven said...

Well, I did comment on his MySpace today to enter those coordinates we got from the emails on the ship. At least, he now knows where the cabin is where he could do that. (I half expected Sam to turn around and say, "Thanks for the suggestion Maven, I think I'll enter those coordinates on this monitor!")

Tess315 said...

I know this is a little late but I seen Sonya's face on the door too. My daughter said she thought it was th email Sam got since there is writing above it.

Ange said...

Yeah Jess that is weird, I wonder if we need to go have a second look at that portion?

Also what's with the Yahoo7 password being the name of an actress? No doubt someone who will be playing a role on the show, but not very clue like IMHO.

Lastly, THANKS Maven!

memphish said...

I'm pretty sure that's the name of a character isn't it? I've avoided most casting spoilers, but I remember seeing that first name.

Sayid's Girl, you could try switching between Firefox and Internet Explorer or clearing your cache. I'm so sorry it's not working for you. I know how frustrating that can be. Back to the Runway.

maven said...

Maybe that character has something to do with Tunisia?

Ange said...

memphish You're probably right about a character name. I have zero insight on that since I try so hard to avoid spoilers.

sayid's girl I think your daughter might be a genius. It is that e-mail with the picture. Well done Mini-Sayid's Girl...go have a look at the main page ;).

memphish said...

I can't remember and am too lazy to look, but have we seen a safe anywhere on the ship yet? Having just watched Expose twice, Howie Zuckerman has one in his closet. How about the Christiane 1?

Also, do you think these ghost images are supposed to mimic to us the strange properties of this part of the world or are they clues or are they sloppy?

Tess315 said...

ange
That is so sweet you mentioned my daughter on the front page. She'll be tickled to see it when I show it to her tomorrow. She's in bed now. (she's 10)Thanks

Twinkle said...

So I'm at ABC after having clicked on the link to the puzzle. The screen loads and there is a dark fuzzy roughly circle shape. I get no directions and nothing on the picture I can click on. Any idea why it's not working? I've tried both Firefox and IE.

Carol Dunstan said...

ok, now that I've actually seen what the numbers are, I don't think they're a depth! Now, I can't seem to remember very well, but what other things have resulted in two answers? I'm wondering if the two, the name and these numbers, go together? If so... are they really her measurements or something else??? I think it has to be a characters name (when I saw the first name I thought of Charlotte Malkin), an actress having that name I think is coincidence (maybe we should start looking at er movies...). Hmm, so we have characters named after philosphers, mathematicians and actresses...

Twinkle said...

Yes, all the names for the season 4 clue passwords have been spoilers for S4 characters.

maven said...

So Maybe this Charlotte is from Tunis and has a very thin waist!

Tess315 said...

twinkle
I don't know what's going on I'm having the same problem.
I'm about ready for bed so I think I'm just going to see if I can get to the puzzle tomorrow.
memphish suggested clearing your cache.

Twinkle said...

I just cheated. I don't want technical difficulties to stand in my way of the story. :-)

These S4 clues are spoilers. Are they fair game to talk about?

Carol Dunstan said...

I can't remember anyone else saying this explicitly so I hope I'm not repeating anyone.

For these clue hunts we have a clue for each season... I think for a start we didn't really know what to make of them but I am convinced now that all of these off-site clue hunt words and things will appear in season 4. So yeah, I guess they are spoilers, bit of a heads up?

I also like (though they had to involve ABC and 7 in some way) how we have to leave find815 for season 4 stuff... keeping it separate from Sam and his mission

Carol Dunstan said...

ok, I took that long typing it up (including answering the phone) that others have said what I just did.

Is there a reason they've given us these hints about season 4 other than for the simple reason of connecting the game to the show more? Should we chew on these bones?

Twinkle said...

Don't know but I think I have a hund how they're related...

Twinkle said...

that should be "hunch"

Did you see the theory on DarkUFO that the Tunisian newspaper is to help us establish a date for the ARG. Someone proposed that the upside down text says, "Saturday, November 7th, 2004" I'm looking at it and can't tell what it says at all!

Twinkle said...

Well, and it wouldn't say that anyway because it's in French!

months of the year

Anyone see anything?

maven said...

I can barely make it out. I do see Saturday, November and maybe 5. Maybe 200. But I think the last blurry number might be a 7. It's really hard to see. Good point that it would be in French anyways, Twinkle.

maven said...

There is a date there...whether it's in English or French. I need someone with younger eyes! LOL

Anonymous said...

kyle: as far as themaxwellgroup.com......

it's either NOT "in-game", or maybe there's a reason "east" and "west" are reveresed.

hmmmm........as it is, it SHOULD BE "W" to the left and "E" to the right. However, we have "E" to the left and "W" to the right.

is this a clue for "Entertainment Weekly" again????

anyone??

headin' to bed.

i'm gonna' head to the mall this weekend and figure out what to put on my custom license plate FRAME now that's lost or lost community related!!!!!!

g-nite peeps

Twinkle said...

Thanks for looking, Maven.

How do French newspapers write it?

Samedi, Novembre ?, 200?

or

Samedi le ? de Novembre 200?

If they really wanted us to get a clue out of it, they should have made it clearer. I bet it's not a clue.

Ange said...

Good Morning. Over at Dark UFO there are some weird developments. I'm not sure what to make of it yet, but there is a link in the 1/17 update on our main page (at the top). Have a look for yourself and see what you think.

Happy Lost Day (Can I say that...it is Thursday?).

Carol Dunstan said...

I saw that Dark UFO stuff and I'm not sure what to make of it either. I'm gonna sleep on it. nighty-night!

memphish said...

I think the stuff on DarkUFO is a fake. It ups the level of the game far beyond what we've had so far. Trying to find that png file in that mess of an email is nothing like finding the different colored or different spaced info. in the emails Sam has received. I don't know how you make something have a find815 url, but I still think it's a fake.

Tess315 said...

Morning all
I haven't been to DarkUFO yet so I don't know what they're talking about yet.
I also don't see any upside down text. They only thing I see that looks like a date is 22 September and to me it looks like 02. I squinted at it for a long time last night and that's all I came up with.

Tess315 said...

Ok I just followed that link to Dark's site.
What on earth has that coloful thing ( I worded it that way for anyone whow doesn't want to look at it) have to do with this game or anything for that matter.
If they are trying to say that's part of the show I'm sorry but I don't but it.

Ange said...

Memphish and Sayid's Girl: I tend to agree with you both. Like memphish said, that type of clue or whatever it is is nothing like what we've done so far. It seems kind of like someone is trying to recreate the Mandrake Wig stuff from TLE. That said, if is is something, at least we can say we had a look!

Ellen said...

hmmm....dinosaur bones on the island?
what a strange clue...wonder if it's for real? The Bali website looks legit, but who knows...

Oh, sorry, Good Morning all!!
Hope everyone is well this beautiful snowy day in Atlanta...wow, haven't seen that in years! How fun!!!

I'm in the middle of several projects,so I probably won't be chatting much, but I will be lurking as I work. Have a great day
!

I agree, the "stuff" at DarkUFO is way to in depth compared to the other clues in this game. That "thingy" they call a hint is to cartoonish to seem plausible for me. I am hard to convince of something and this is one of those instances.

Unknown said...

Tech question: Is there a way to mask/re-route a file's URL so that it appears to be hosted on a server that it isn't actually hosted on?

Because if that's not possible, and these images are on the Find815 domain, then what must we think of them? Red herrings?

shellma said...

Morning all!!
Sorry for disappearing like that last night. Had a little dinner snafu... :(
maven said...

ROFL!! I would have a litter of kittens if he had done that!!

shellma said...

Kyle, I think I remember from TLE that someone said you could.....not 100% though.

Ellen said...

Good questions Kyle, wish I knew. Unfortunately, tho I am very much a computer nerd, I work with hardware. I hope someone here can answer, cause I really would like to know if we've been "hacked" or if it's real. Do you think Ninja or Speaker would know?

xxoo

shellma said...

Wooowww! I was just over at Docartz. I had NO IDEA he was so "in" with ABC!! Has everyone known this like forever??

shellma said...

Ok. Hubby is a programmer. Finally got him on IM. He says it's difficult, but it can be done.

Ellen said...

Uh, guys, I just got the weirdest phone call from this number:

555-000-9561

It was spanish, or something like that and all I could understand of it was "marke numero uno" and it sounded really urgent. I didn't of course, I just hung up.
I tried a reverse phone # lookup, and it is not a valid prefix code....
how very weird.
Anybody else ever see this kind of #?

xxoo

ular97 said...

Glad someone could answer that! I just have my womans instincts and intuitions. That is my basis for technical things.

ular97 said...

ellen...are you serious? There was a number with 000? Or, are you kidding us? That is really weird if you're serious!

shellma said...

Ellen...now days there is all kinds of software that alows those people to change their numbers and names when calling you. I think they do it so you can't bother them.

Unknown said...

Ellen: I haven't, but others have.

I'm gonna say that I think the OurMutualFriend fooferaw is fan-driven. We've just never been given any indication that Find 815 would go in that direction at all.

Ellen said...

I just checked with our local operator services and there is no such number in the US...didn't someone mention that 555 numbers are used for dramatic purposes somewhere? It looks like the type of number that was in Talbot's phone on the ship...and they used the number I punched in when the game first began (I have 2 different #'s I use). Whoa...wonder if it could be the game? Maybe that's the reason for the Georgia Cavanaugh number on oceanic press release? I need answers...I'm freakin' out here....;D

xxoo

ular97 said...

I never answer a call that doesn't have a caller ID or a number I know. They can leave a message if it is important. I don't want them bothering me either.

ular97 said...

WOW you are right ellen. Someone did say 555 is what they use on the media's as a prefix because it is the one number not a real working number

Ellen said...

Kyle, could you post that link again or email it to me....the link you posted won't work...
Thank you!

Ellen: My bad. Try again.

Tess315 said...

ellen
I think they use the 555 as an area code. It would be prefix- 555-1234.
But that is really weird.
And you're right I just went to a directory look up and 555 is not a prefix at least not in the states.
Of course it could be what shellma mentioned.
Speaking of phones mine's ringing.
And I'm like ular97 if I don't know the number or if it's blocked I don't answer it.
By the way hi ular97 it's been awhile since I've seen your name. How are you?

ular97 said...

OK..so lots of people are getting the same call. Is it some recording going on, in order to get people to subscribe to a reverse phone look up site? Or am I "lost" as usual?

jess4ua said...

Hey everyone!

I have to agree that the clue on Darkufo doesn't seem to "fit". I am glad to have seen it though, just in case.

ular97 said...

Howdy to everyone! I am doing great. I lurked some on the book review pages. I have not been on here much since the season ended. I saw the game going now...so here I am! Oh I did read some of the books.

Ellen said...

Thank you Kyle!! I am infuriated now...these idiots could have personal information about me and I am going to call our local consumer protection agency to report it. You guys are right, I'm going to keep a close eye on this.

ok, back to work now....:)

maven said...

Good morning: Checked out the DarkUFO stuff. Very intriguing, but it just doesn't fit in with the rest of Find815 game. Thanks to Mr. Shellma for letting us know that linking sites to the find815 server can be done. Dark seems to be implying that it is in-game, but I'm not buying it yet. Fun to talk about though!

Ellen: Sorry to hear about your phone call. We have to be so careful nowadays. I would report it, too.

shellma said...

Mr.?
Thanks Mav. lol

Ellen said...

Thanks, Maven! I just reported it to the FTC. Hope it gets rid of the problem.

Good to see you here today!!!

Ange said...

Hi Gang, time for my daily lunchtime whopper. I hope it's not too long today.

Ellen: Boo about your phone call. I knew there was a reason that I never answered my phone.

memphish said...I can't remember and am too lazy to look, but have we seen a safe anywhere on the ship yet? Having just watched Expose twice, Howie Zuckerman has one in his closet. How about the Christiane 1?

I searched quickly on Lostpedia for any mention of a safe and got nothing. Later on I think it's worth having a look at some of the cabin shots to see if there is a safe there. If those numbers aren't a safe combo, I can't for the life of me figure what they're for.

also......do you think these ghost images are supposed to mimic to us the strange properties of this part of the world or are they clues or are they sloppy?

Jess and I were chatting about this the other night. All we came up with was a big shrug. There seems to be weird writing, overlays, and images on EVERYTHING. Even Talbot's cell phone had handwriting on it. Why would there be handwriting on a phone?

I like the idea that it might be there to signify that whatever images we see are being interrupted by the electromagnetic stuff in the area. Otherwise I think I'll have to go with dramatic effect once again.

I feel like we might need to have another look at the Clue Hunt passwords again. I think there's something that we might need, but I can't reason what it is yet. So I am proposing it to the OC Think-tank to see what you can come up with. So far we have:
1. Matthew/Abaddon
2. 423 Cheyene Walk/Daniel Faraday
3. 36-15-28/Charlotte Lewis

I agree that if the names are season 4 characters it's a bit spoilery...(well only if you have been reading spoilers. The names mean nothing to me). We do have two Biblical references, a location from Desmond and Penny's relationship, and seeming character info for season 4. So what's with the numbers, and what's with the Biblical stuff? How does this fit? Or does it even matter?

maven said...

Ange: Those Clue Hunt passwords are supposed to all be related to S4. I don't know the spoilers, but I guess we have to assume that these names, addresses, numbers will come up in S4. Maybe the full name is Matthew Abaddon...maybe Daniel Faraday lives at 423 Cheyene Walk...maybe Charlotte Lewis will need those numbers to get into a safe.

Re the ghostly images: All the overlays of lines and images must mean something more than just a style or atmosphere to the game. The one last night with the image of Sonya and the email has to be more than just a dramatic effect. Also, if saw that image of Sonya, why didn't Sam?

shellma said...

So. It's Thursday already and we still have a lot left on progress. Don't we generally just get the video diary on Friday? Maybe we'll get lots of stuff today!!

ular97 said...

I have been wondering if the over lays are a hint that there are multiple dimensions or something along those lines?

Carol Dunstan said...

morning everyone :P

My gut reaction to the pic on DarkUFO is fake, mainly because as others have noted its such a departure in style for this game (TLE on the other hand, it would fit right in). Actually I have seen on DarkUFO another photo that was dug up from decomiling the flash and it all reminds me of that couple (Kylie and Jason? I forget now) in the Grand Canyon pic from TLE. I don't think it's in-game, it would be nice if Dark could get that checked, but in the case of it being legit I don't mind them spending their time on it.

As for the season 4 clue hunt passwords, I defiantely think they're spoilery. I haven't been following spoilers although my sister has mentioned a few to me. Even so, since they are just random names and numbers and stuff at the moment they're not that bad a spoiler... when they come up in the show we're just going to connect a dot and go "oooh" I think. So I think there is a character Matthew Abbadon, there will be something about Daniel Faraday at that address, and there will be something about Charlotte Lewis and those numbers (I thought of a sfe combination last night but forgot to mention it).

Maven you raise a good point... if Sam didn't see Sonia or any of those other overlays, why do we? That is what makes me think they're just for atmosphere

now I know people have mentioned stuff usually happens on find815 at 9pm... but 9pm where? How long until then?

shellma said...

Acutally Carol, things seem to happen randomly between the countdown clock.

shellma said...

What most excites me is that we're due a website!!

9:00 pm EST at least for me.

DarkUFO said...

Hi All,

I can confirm that the new site and images here

http://find815.blogspot.com/2008/01/mystery-comments-lead-to-new-clues.html

Are real and part of the game.I've spoken to my contact at the company running the site and they confirm it.

Hope this helps :)

jess4ua said...

Carol - We get something Mon-Fri at 9:00PM EST.

Darkufo- Thanks for the info!

Carol Dunstan said...

sayid's girl, and what time is it for you now? I used to have the difference betweent he various US time zones and Aus straight in my head during the last game but it's gone now

maven said...

Carol: It's now 12 noon on the west coast (PST). Usually, the "story continues" at 6 pm (PST).

WOW: So Dark has confirmed this new stuff...going to check it out more deeply.

DarkUFO said...

No problem. I'm still no clearer what it all means though LOL :)

maven said...

Well, all this stenography talk is waaaay beyond me. Looks like they're all having fun trying to find something in the stegosaurus pic.

Also, on the baliholiday site, is that the only page that comes up? Nothing else seems to work on that site.

Twinkle said...

Yeah, I saw that too. Glad he clarified how he confirmed it. The island is getting more mysterious. A lost island with dinos on it is nothing new though so there has to be more.

(I watched Project Runway too, Memphish!)

Tess315 said...

carol
It's 3:18 pm right now.

shellma said...

Thanks Dark!!!

memphish said...

Sayid's Girl, Did you ever get the ABC puzzle to work for you?

Twinkle said...

The whole site is a picture file. That is unusual in site development. Plus they could have designed the site easily without referencing the www.find815.com host site. It's a pretty blatant connection and now we know it wasn't faked. What in the world it could mean, I have no idea.

Tess315 said...

memphish
Nope. Never did. I haven't been back there recently but it still wasn't working this morning.

maven said...

This was posted over at Dark's: Using StegSpy you get then the message
"Steganography found at marker position 414663
Hiderman program detected!"

What is a Hiderman program?

shellma said...

Ha ha....Dark reads our blog!! I think everybody does.
I'm a little mad at Docartz. He wrote a kinda mean post over on one of Darks blogs. Didn't seem neccessary...

shellma said...

Mav, the best I understand it, theres something hidden in that Steg pic, and that's how you would find it.

memphish said...

Despite the DarkUFO confirm, I hope it's a fake because I don't like anything about this set of stuff. I don't like the skull font. I don't like the cheesy image only website that implies but has no links. I don't like the email and I don't like the hidden file, and using any of those things in S4 would be a Paolo and Nikki kind of moment for me. Gripe, gripe, gripe, but this stuff is a great case of one of these things is not like the other.

Sayid's Girl, did you try logging out and logging back in? You aren't alone. Someone else I know hasn't managed to get into it either.

Twinkle, did you love the coat Jillian made as much as I did?

shellma said...

Yeah, Memphish....I was wondering just how reliable his "source" is. Is Dark our new Speaker (Who seems to not be doing much on his site...what's up with that?)?
I didn't want to ask over at his blog. I didn't want to seem like I was being crappy...

jess4ua said...

I checked out the baliholiday site earlier. I wish I could check it out a little more now, but kids have art class.(frown and mope) I'll have to check back later.....

Also, I updated the front page with the links.

Twinkle said...

Totally loved the coat, pants, and shirt. The detail they included was amazing. Why, oh, why didn't they win? And who could call that thing that did win beautiful? (IMnotsohumbleO) :-)

So there's something hidden in the picture of the Stegosaurus?

maven said...

Memphish: I kinda agree with you. Even though some people were complaining about how easy Fin815 is, and that we are spoon fed info, I find it kind of relaxing and not stressful. Now this stegasaurus thing has added a dimension that is beyond my computer skills, and sort of takes it out of my hands so I can't find anything on my own.

jess4ua said...

Also, I have to agree.....This still seems weird to me. I would have like to taken part in the hunt, if it is "in game"

shellma said...

Hey Jess....
I thought we got clues at different times in between the countdown clocks...

Tess315 said...

memphish
I just tried the site again, still not working for me. And yes I did log out and log back in.
But here's something weird. I'm able to get to the puzzle on my old computer that I gave to my daughter. It has an ME operating system and I'm not sure which version of IE browser. Only thing is find815 didn't have a place to type in the code word when I did the clue hunt. Maybe it will be there after I do the puzzle. We'll see.

shellma said...

YOu've tried firfox right Sayidsgirl?

Tess315 said...

shellma
I think we did get emails and websites at different times in the begining, but now it seem it's always at 9:00 pm now.
memphish
I also agree with your gripe.
It just seems out of context or something.

Tess315 said...

shellma
No I didn't try foxfire.
I'm kind of afraid to use something new.
I just messed up my paint program somehow where I don't have any tools on the side. It opens as if it's a file.
So if I can mess that up I'm afraid to know what would happen if I used a different browers. :)

shellma said...

Firefox is just an easy download. just sits on your desktop and you can open it or not....just like IE.

Fenris said...

*sigh* I wish this could excite me, but it actually kinda annoys me. Do we have to be searching the comments of every blog that is covering this story to have a complete picture of what is going on now?

Okay that was pretty much what we had to do in the last ARG, but there was a lot of it and you knew that was the case all along. Here they seem to have changed the rules. Question is, is it a one off or is it suddenly going to change everything to be like the first ARG.

The problem I see is this: Now this has happened, the suggestion seems to be that we need to be scouring the web for stuff even though it is very unlikely there will be anything.

Actually I am kind of suspicious this is some ABC employee trying to look cool by leaking future information.

*sigh*

Tess315 said...

shellma
I know, maybe I'll try it. :)

shellma said...

I hear ya Fenny! I'm still not convinced of Dark's "source". And yes, the complete 360 in gameplay is out of the ordinary.
This guy over at Dark's is saying that they're the "chosen ones"....since they got the clue in their chat room. *ahem* (I haven't been asking for that..... ;) )

memphish said...

Sayid's Girl, I changed to Firefox recently and I love it. I was resistant too, but now that I've changed I won't go back but for certain things that only run on IE.

shellma said...

BTW...I keep asking about Speaker, and no one will answer me.
Did something going on that makes it impolite to ask about or something? Is he not "in game" this round?
Just wondering.....

Tess315 said...

shellma
I'm not really sure about speaker. I thought he was in game since he and Ninja started posts on the topic of where is 815. (not exact title of post) And then speaker got the ITE site running again.

Hey shell, I don't really know the answer, but I don't want you to feel invisible. I get the sense that Speaker is more of an observer this time, just from his posts on ITE.

Oh and thanks for explaining about where that crazy Mutual Friend came from. I went back to Sam's site and tried to read the forums looking for him. I'm with you and Fenris, it just seems weird that it's truly in game, though the url seems to indicate it is. I'll believe more once they uncover a real clue, instead of just this scavenger hunt. Which should happen just about the time I post this, ensuring I look foolish!

ular97 said...

I am still the great skeptic! I can't make myself believe this DarkUFO business. I may end up wrong but I just don't see it.

shellma said...

My thoughts exactly Ular!
But if it is....kudos to them!

Fenris said...

I don't think Speaker is in game this time around. He still has sources though, so like Dark UFO and Doc Artz they may be privy to the odd inside scoop, but I don't think he or Ninja will be a direct part like last time.

Given that, I think it's great that they are both trying to stay involved. It certainly makes things feel more ARG like having them around.

shellma said...

And thanks sayidsgirl and fysb!

shellma said...

And Fenny..

ular97 said...

I am glad they are having fun with their discoveries over at Dark. They are going the extra mile in their searches, you have to give them kudo's for that!

shellma said...

I think we are the "theory think tank".....
And we're pretty good at it.

Carol Dunstan said...

thanks for the time info guys, think I've got that sorted now!

And all that stegosaurus stuff seems to me someone involved behind the scenes with the game doing it as a lark. But I am still hesitant to discount it, and I hate that!

FYSB said...

Definitely the theory think tank. The stuff that they're doing over at Dark UFO is fascinating and I'm learning a lot, but if that clue landed on my lap I would have deleted it. Good for them.

Crabby Old Lady Voice - "why is someone sending me dinosaur pictures, there are no dinosaurs on this island, this is just crazy, you kids stop messing around and get back to your chores"

shellma said...

LMAO fysb!!!!!
I too would have discounted it....and so did they for a while, so tells their blog.

shellma said...

BTW fysb...are you and I the only DFW folks left?

FYSB said...

I think so Shellma, at least of the folks actually posting. There may be some dfw lurkers out there.

...shakes the bushes...

"any dfw lurkers out there?"

Unknown said...

Morning all. :)

Hmmm, if you read that Baliholidayfun front page blurb, it's full of bad grammar and very amateurishly written. If that is really in game, it should have been done more professionally to get me to believe it.

shellma said...

Well, I wouldn't say it's "full" of bad grammer....
Anyway...don't know if I've seen you here before dale...welcome!

Patch said...

Ooops! That Dale is me. He's my son and I forgot to sign him out and me in. *lol*

shellma said...

And I can't even manage to spell grammar today!! lol

shellma said...

Oh! haha patch!

Patch said...

Yep, not full of bad grammar exactly, I'm exaggerating, but it's very childishly written in my opinion.

ib4uc said...

shellma & fysb... I have to ask - what is dfw?

Patch said...

Hi Shell! :) That'll teach me to check I'm me before I post! (I hope!)

shellma said...

Sorry ib4uc...that's shorthand for Dallas-Fort Worth.

shellma said...

Hey Mav, I found this article you might like on steganography.(Or anybody else)

Unknown said...

I downloaded Hiderman and it didn't find anything in either the PNG or the JPG file.

I swear to god it's not in-game. It's too lame.

Unknown said...

...and now DarkUFO and Find815.blogspot are down. Hrm.

shellma said...

I am a geeks wife...I have no personal knowledge of such technology Kyle....
but I don't know if I'd call it lame....
It's pretty elaborate from what hubby tells me. Not an easy thing to do. One would have to hack the server....

Ange said...

Sheesh, I'm finally caught up with all of this hub-bub...and I have to agree, I don't like it one bit. This is a total 360 game changer and I agree with Dale/Patch (hehe), that Bali site is full up with grammar and punctuation errors. /rant because there's a BUT...

1. Last game the clues were farmed out to sponsors to provide to us as they saw fit. Hence all the Sublymonal, Jeep, and Mandrake Wig (per Verizon). So, this could be a sponsor intern putting together a clue for us in the most interesting way they can think of. Although that doesn't hold a lot of water because well, no sponsor is identified.

2. Last game in the abominable glyph hunt, glyphs were given to the main game blogs. Could that be what's happening here? Could Dark UFO have been given some info and this is how they are choosing to get it in play? That would account for the unprofessional sites and grammar issues.

3. I feel CRABBY in so many ways about this, but I think that if Dark is confirming it then we should have a go. It seems that a lot of the work has been done so far and OurMutualFriend42 has recently posted "Carpe Diem" in the chat over there so maybe we should think about that and what it means just in case we're supposed to (LOL).

Interesting, but I still think this smells of Fish Biscuits!

PS: Thank-you TBP for scanning the pics!

Erin said...

No-one seems to have mentioned that Our Mutual Friend is a novel by Dickens, lots of links if you want to see them.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Our_Mutual_Friend

Also, that Bali site is terribly written, it make my eyes hurt!

Twinkle said...

Regardless, TPTB always take steps to clue us in when we're missing something in game. So we don't have to scour the web too hard because it's their responsibility to point us in the right direction. If stego is in game, they were giving us clues too subtly and only now has it amounted to enough that we clued in. Therefore it could have been part of their style all along but they played it too close to the vest and we missed it.

FYSB said...

Patch (or whoever you are mwah haha) I completely agree with your assessment of the writing. It is horrible. Maybe they want us to think it was written by a native Bali-an who doesn't speak English as his/her first language, but isn't that kind of insulting?

Kyle, I'm with you on the randomness of this new game. But I have to bring this up... if it's not in game, that means DarkUFO is on the hoax. Would he risk his credibility and that of his site?

ange...smells of fishbiscuits! haha!

Unknown said...

Oh, shell, I don't mean "lame" technologically. I grant that it's a complex task from that angle. I mean lame in the storytelling way. If this were legit, it'd be such a hamfisted way of telling the Find 815 story.

And Ange, I remember the glyphs being released on blogs, too. The difference there, though, was that TLE went on for much longer than one month. Find 815 is much shorter, and to have this wrench thrown into the works halfway through....it's just too odd. I'm way more than skeptical.

Unknown said...

pharm: It's the name of the book Desmond planned on reading right before he died. It's the place he hid the failsafe key.

memphish said...

Pharmacopaeia, Our Mutual Friend is the Dickens book Desmond is waiting to read just before he dies, and Penny hid a message to him in it before he went to prison. The username was clearly chosen to link to LOST, 42 and all.

Ange said...

Our Mutual Friend is also where Penny hid a love letter to Desmond, which he later finds when he is stranded on the island.

Ange said...

LOL yeah what Memphish said ;).

Unknown said...

Triple jinx!

Erin said...

I do agree that this is a little out of left field. I also wonder why comments were left there as opposed to, say, Inside the Experience which is a 'sanctioned' blog, if that makes sense.

Twinkle said...

I'm not having a hard time with the style of the game because it seems analogous to education to me.

There's the official stuff that you have to complete to get the grade. You're told what to do and what to learn. Complete it on schedule and you get rewarded.

Then there's the extra curricular stuff that you might or might not pick up. There's also enrichment activities like when there's a school-wide assembly with a paleontologist. Doesn't have much to do with your core curriculum but, whatever, at least you get out of class.

Both leave you wondering if you'll ever use the information ever again in real life.

Twinkle said...

Of course in this case "real life" is Lost. :-D

FYSB said...

My problem with this other game is that so far, no clues have come out of it. It's gone from skull to bali to email to steg and other than the thrill of the hunt, there's been no reward.

Patch said...

I don't know, it just feels iffy to me. I'm sure Dark truly believes that it's in game, and I'll be very happy to find out that it is, but I just feel like there would have some reference to it on Speaker's site or Ninja's blog or somewhere more legit.

Ange said...

Alright, I'm going out on a limb here, but this week Speaker did a random comment here at out blog:

Speaker said...
And I posted the South Korean one last night as well :)
http://www.insidetheexperience.com

What if he was trying to tell us something. What if he has a clue somewhere in that picture on his site, and we missed it or overlooked it?

Maybe TPTB are sifting out little clues to the blogs like that?

Fenris said...

I just scanned the bali pic and the stegasaurus pic and sk.jpg (Speakers posted graffit seoul billboard) and found nothing "sorry no steg found"

Patch said...

I wondered about that too Ange, but I can't make anything of it.

Fenris said...

scanned with the step spy program that is. I didn't make their brains explode with my mind or anything.

jess4ua said...

What? Ange smells of fish biscuits?........

Shell - I am pretty sure that everything new that has updated on find815.com has been at 9:00 EST. The only thing I am not sure about is the Flickr t-shirt campaign.

Ange - Sheesh....Now I have to go to ITE and sift through all of those hundreds on comments (rolls eyes)! You just had to say that, didn't you. LOL

At this point, I don't think I even care about the stuff on Darkufo. The fact that I had no opportunity to take part in it has ruined any excitement even if it is in game.
Wasn't that "clue" given in their chat? From what I have seen, I wouldn't advise anyone to go there, "in game" or not.
Okay, I think I am vented now. :D

And let me make sure I am posting as myself......

maven said...

Well, it sure is interesting that all this stuff came up with Dark confirming it as IG and then his site goes down.

lost2010 said...

Good heavens. It took me 15 minutes just to figure out what stegonography is and I'm still a little iffy on it.

Is it any hidden message in a picture or is it specifically something hidden in the computer code for a picture?

They've just leaped way over my head if this is the direction they're going. I can't even get the Talbot search game to load.

Fenris said...

Maybe they are in trouble for it. *shrug*

I dunno. But I've been looking for other stego scanner progs and I have to say they are not easy to find. I found pages of stuff with no download or broken links and the programs I have found come up with Nothing.

Apparently Matt The Pale posted he found something on ITE but until I can confirm it myself with a program here I believe nothing of it.

The whole thing is a big barrel of rotten old fish biscuits if you ask me.

maven said...

Thanks for that link to "explain" stegnography. Guess I need an explanation of the explanation! I realize it's basically a picture within a picture, but I don't get how to use the computer to decipher it. I'll leave this part to better minds.

maven said...

Good news (maybe)! The DGA has reached an agreement with the AMPTP! And the AMPTP has asked the WGA for informal meetings. The WGA is right now going over the DGA contract, and people over at United Hollywood are cautiously optimistic.

oooo Maven, such good news!! Well, it's good to have a little hope at least...

lost2010 said...

So, the way I'm reading stegonography - the hidden picture of Sonya on the hidden clue hunt could almost fit? Or is it in the actual computer code. I secretly hope that's not the way it's going.

Glad to hear there's some movement on the contract! I haven't turned on the television since Christmas.

Tess315 said...

Thanks for the link but that one didn't work for me either.
Maybe it will work for andrew I hope.
But it's ok I did try another computer. Something I was going to suggest to andrew if he has another one he can try.
I have an older computer I let my daughter use it has an ME operating system and don't know if that's the reason it worked of just because it's a different computer but I did finally get into the puzzle.
And yes my daughter is a 5th grader and Thank You for the compliment.

Fenris said...

I can't sleep.

So okay, I came back and look.

1) After checking the Wiki, I realised that the timeline on the black rock and Maxwell seem pretty close.

2) That seems to be totally the wrong website up.

3) I think that it really was a leaked spoiler from Dark UFO. I don't think we were meant to know that site until just now.

maven said...

We just can't seem to get away from electromagnetism can we?

Sam should have asked Trace to find out about Maxwell...she seems to find stuff.

shellma said...

Must have been Fenny....
Wonder who could get away with things like that...

Twinkle said...

Ok, so maybe the picture of the stegosaurus is to make us think of steganography and not about a stegosaurus on the island? Is there something hidden on the baliholidayfun jpg? Did they shut down DarkUFO because they were getting to close to an answer too soon?

I can't find anything though.

(Glad to hear about a possible end to the strike!)

maven said...

Why didn't Sam enter Maxwell "Group" into answermyquestions.org?

Twinkle said...

Oh, yeah, or maybe someone just leaked it through Dark UFO and there's nothing more to know than Tracey R referenced it. I hope there's more to it though!

Twinkle said...

Dark UFO is back up.

Ange said...

Okay so now that we know this is real and legit, what do we do with a fleepin stegosaurus pic?

They're trying all kinds of decoding stuff over at Dark's, Ange. I'm at a loss with this stuff.
