Chapter 5- E-mail, Website, and a Voicemail

*Update 1/30- You might want to go over to ITE and see what Speaker has for us (Thanks Maven for the mail about this). **Update- Thanks to Memphish for linking in comments. ABC has an Oceanic Airlines press release today. ~Ange

New Picture

Voicemail

Tracey is calling Sam to let him know she is worried about him (she also sounds a little sleepy). She wants to make sure he's okay as he hasn't seemed right lately. She reminds him he's, "...not alone."

E-Mail

Sent Items:

Subject: Employment Opportunity Recipient Austral Air

  • Sam is responding to their offer of employment, but declining as "one or two things have come up". Also, he's not sure he wants to work for an airline.

Subject: Message Recipient: Tracey R

  • He apologizes for not getting in touch with her but something has "come up" for him, and he has a "bad feeling" about what's going to happen.

Inbox:

Subject: Employment Opportunity Sender: Austral Air

  • They are informing Sam that a position may have come up that would work for him, and would like him to come to Sydney. It's signed Isaac Chapman

Subject: [no subject] Sender: Unknown

  • The number: 411151057 appears.
  • Thanks to Maven for e-mailing about this. 411151057 translates to ALL IS LOST. WeBB at Dark UFO figured this out using 1337 (leet).

Website

The site is Ocean Forecasts and it is a weather report for the Sunda Trench for the next 24 hours.

  • It reports Southerly gales and rough or very rough seas that may be occasionally high.
  • Thanks to Memphish in comments for the link to the Beaufort Scale which is used for measuring gales.
  • http://www.oceanforecasts.com is not a live site at this time.

I'm left with some questions, how about you? 1. What's so important about this correspondence with Austral Air? 3. Could that weather report be any more all encompassing? It does look like there's some rough weather ahead though.

Sayidsgirl, it'll be Noon EST.

Thanks tim
As you can see math is not my strong suit. LOL

9AM for me! Glad I don't have to be anywhere in the morning tomorrow!

maven said...

Is it ok to talk about the Password yet?

AS6 said...

So, who else wants an Oceanic Airlines Gold Pass? I wonder if us Aussies can get one.

Carol Dunstan said...

Mouth of Sauron, LOL

maven, I was just about to Google Tanna. Wiki says it's an island of Vanuata, so I think like a lot of those island nations if it's not the main tourist spot it is hardish to get to (particuarly in bad weather)

looking forward to picking apart those glitches

I haven't seen the Aussie password anywhere yet.

I have to say 1 pet peeve about this game is having to click in the middle of a video to make it move on. What is the point of that?

Also, were we supposed to hear the wind/Sonya calling Sam's name before he went on deck and saw her and heard her? He really needs those meds. I also have to say that Ockham has grown on me. He's all right.

I think you me and tim are the only ones here.
memphish is over at TLC. But she may be doing the same as me bouncing back and forth.

Is that password a place or street in England? Or something else?

Carol Dunstan said...

as6 I raised that with my sister. I am doubtful, but if we do I bet we hear it from Ninja.

Look what I just read on that wiki about Tanna:
According to anthropologist Joël Bonnemaison, who has studied the Tannese extensively, their resistance to change is due to their traditional worldview and how they "perceive, internalise, and account for the dual concepts of space and time." [1]

Tess315 said...

Guess I spoke to soon.

Tim said...

It's a neighborhood in London... I've actually been there!

or apparently there's one in Leicester, too... check the wikipedia entry for it.

memphish said...

There's one particularly interesting fact about Tanna. I'll let everyone discover it for themselves. I did notice that an Island named Matthew is south of Tanna. Matthew was one of our earlier clues.

maven said...

It's a suburb of London.

Carol Dunstan said...

well I wasn't going to comment on the new password till a new post was up, but since taht might be a while shall we just start discussing? I haven't seen what the ABC password was either

Vanuatu is where The Survivor game was played. It was suppose to be more or less uninhabited other than natives wasn't it?

maven said...

There's a lot of Queen's Colleges.

The Yahoo7 pw is: Red Sox

Carol Dunstan said...

memphish, the more I read the more I think that Tanna is all interesting!

It is, however, west of Fiji. If east/west means anything

maven said...

Tim: Is there a Queen's College there?

memphish said...

Red Sox. Funny.

Here's more on that Tanna stuff Carol mentioned.

A traditionally-based Tannese identity can be constantly recreated, Bonnemaison argues, by reference to the island itself, to the history and powers inherent in places, so that people feel they belong less to a social order than to a place. By this analysis, the John Frum movement derives its strength from places on Tanna and from the traditionally conceptualised relationship of Tanna to the 'Greater Space' of the rest of the world. This relationship between space and myth makes the recreation of identity timeless, it puts Tanna outside the flow of history.

Sounds pretty Other-ish.

Loved this tidbit about the people of Tanna:
The island is the centre of the Jon Frum cargo cult, which worships an American World War II soldier as their god. Yaohnanen is the centre of the Prince Philip movement, which worships Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh and prince consort of the United Kingdom.

memphish said...

Maybe some folks from Tanna migrated to the Island and brought their timeless nature focused and exalting their place with them. Maybe Richard Alpert is from Tanna.

Erin said...

There's a Queen's College at Cambridge, Oxford, Melbourne, London, the University of Charlotte, the City University of NY... take your pick :)

memphish said...

Good stuff Maven. Our Others seem to worship Jacob as their god. And I'm willing to bet he's no more worthy than Jon Frum or Prince Philip.

ular97 said...

The cargo cult is common in the less civilized islands in southeast asia. The natives where I lived in Irian Jaya, Indo. believed planes were big bird gods for many years.

maven said...

Well, there was a reference to the 4-toed statue in the Clue Hunt tonight. What was that hiding among the yellow hose? How bizarre was that? Maybe the Hostiles, including Richard Alpert, are descendents from Tanna. Anyone check their feet? LOL

Tim said...

No -- Queen's College in London is not in Southfields.

Capcom said...

Heh, yeah, that Cargo Cult is an awesome story!

maven said...

^^^^Sorry, Memphish, didn't see you said almost the same thing!

memphish said...

No worries Maven. Cheyne Walk isn't in Southfields either. They're on opposite sides of the Thames.

I think I'll call it a night and hope the video has been deciphered by the morning. Sam's got a busy day ahead of him. And so do we! Find 815, then LOST!

maven said...

Night, Memphish!

The Red Sox pw just might be a nod to the Red Sox winning the World Series in 2004 which was an important plot point in the show with Jack and Christian!

New Post!!

Carol Dunstan said...

so is anyone working on the glitches from the video? I can hear words but I am just trying to consentrate on the visiual at the moment (and not getting anything)

ular97 said...

Okay, I am calling it a night. I have to go to the cardiologist tomorrow afternoon to see if my new pacemaker/defibrillator implant is working proper and if I am healing okay. Just got it about a month ago. I need to check out all the new information on here before I get ready to go, so I can't sleep to late.

Love the even more prominent flashes in the latest video blog from Sam.

I've also added the Yahoo!7 password to LostWiki. (It's ok maven, I played the game and found it.)

Patch said...

Could everyone hear the voice in the glitchy parts of the video? Please say it wasn't just me. :)

Capcom said...

Godspeed Ular!

29. How did A Cooper get to Island -- Others brought him per Blu-Ray discs.

Is there different stuff on the blue ray as compared to the DVD?

15. Runway? - yes if deleted scene to be believed. Why? Don't know.

Why deleted scenes... Juliet says to sawyer that it was a runway in through the looking glass.

I got the black rock game to when I used Safari, and then it crashed, so I switched to firefox and it brought me to the right game... too weird.

I want a golden ticket...

*Golden ticket only accepted on Oceanic flight... Have a fictional good time... LOL

Oh phew! Carol, you heard them too.
