Thanks for the clean slate. LOST with explanations.

I rewatched The Man Behind the Curtain today and then the commentary. Wow!

Memphish - Woah! That is sooo exciting!

going back to something oodles posted in the last comments. I had assumed the squares were related to the search grid, but I also don't want to take any chances ;) I wonder if we can get a map showing the shape and depths of the Sunda Trench and overlay it

that enhancement sounds interesting!

Twinkle said...

Memphish, I just finished all of the Access Granted that you linked to earlier. Awesome! I must say that was better information than we've gotten in this ARG so far. It's nice to have some "definitive" answers to some theories.

memphish said...

I'm almost hesitant to say this, but DarkUFO has a post with the coordinates from last night's activity posted over the earth. The area is south of Bali.

Hopefully this will be my last 2 cents on this topic, but I agree I don't want to see hacked chapters that haven't been released yet and those are out there, I scroll on by, but I do appreciate that there's somewhere out there that could get us past that dino picture. As for spreading the joy in these matters, it wouldn't hurt, but given the short amount of time I can see why they haven't. Finally, I don't think it really messes up the casual game player to have no idea that the dino or other bonus clue isn't out there. None of this stuff is integral, and I'm sure it will all end up on Lostpedia in the long run if you really want to know.

RE Lost with explanations: I like catch-up episodes because it helps you focus on the essentials of the show and usually clarifies theories. I wish the x-files had done that. I didn't watch the show in order and I'm still all befuddled on what was happening in the main show arc.

The area is south of Bali.

I guess I kinda assumed that's where we were looking. The map was pretty recognizable on the minigame, and it only makes sense given where the events of Find 815 have taken us.

No offense intended to you, memphish, but isn't this kind of a non-story?

Carol Dunstan said...

something posted at Dark's 9related to the overlays on the cluehunt) reminded me I was trying to identify the brown bottle beside the pill bottle in the clue hunt. You can clearly read 'HY' as the start of the first word, the next letter I am sure is a 'D' but the rest is unclear. Anyway, I've had it in my head from the start that it is Hydrogen Peroxide (for medicinal purposes, given that it is sitting on the first aid box). I looking into it more I found this on wiki:

Hydrogen peroxide is used with phenyl oxalate ester and an appropriate dye in glow sticks as an oxidizing agent. It reacts with the ester to form an unstable CO2 dimer which excites the dye to an excited state; the dye emits a photon (light) when it spontaneously relaxes back to the ground state.

with our green fog from the video, that bit stood out to me.

memphish said...

Someone asked Kyle. That's why I mentioned it, but yes, it's just confirmation of everything we know so far.

Neat stuff on hydrogen peroxide Carol.

Unknown said...

Oh, gotcha. I must have missed the question.

Carol Dunstan said...

Kyle, I'm with you, although I'd say south of Sumatra rather than Bali.

Re Timeline,
I was just looking back over the earlier clues and it struck me that Sam, in his website hack, says:
"On the 22nd of September, Oceanic flight 815 took off from Sydney bound for LA."
He does not give a year. I think that's pretty compelling evidence that what we see in the videos etc. takes place in late 2004.
Whether Sam is telling us or someone else, that is another matter alright.

Carol Dunstan said...

looking at the overlays on the clue hunt, on the wall above the table to the far right is a map of the Indonesian are (what I am currently zoomed in on I can see Borneo, Sumatra and the Malaysian peninsula)

Ellen said...

very interesting about the hydrogen peroxide, Carol!

Just saw the new trailer concerning the "enhanced" recap show before the premier!!!!
The caption at the bottom said, "Black Rock was a nineteenth century slave ship..."

Can't wait!!So excited....
xxoo

Twinkle said...

That's a good point, oodles. He doesn't give a year which is how someone talks about events occuring in the current year.

I plotted when Sam would be sailing if he were to find the freckage, the discovery was reported, and Cooper and Naomi accurately reported what they had heard on the news. (Of course one says Indian Ocean and the other Pacific so who knows if their testimony is reliable.) Anyway, that put Sam sailing in late November or early December at the latest.

Now someone on Dark is theorizing that the aurora Sam saw was the hatch exploding. According to island time (via Lostpedia) the hatch exploded on Saturday, Nov 27th, 2004. (All of season 3 encompassed 30 days taking us up to Dec 23rd, 2004!)

All to say that I'm once again leaning towards this being the most likely theory. We get a clue which leads us to the listening post (Camp Millar) at the same time Sam sees a strange light at sea. We know he's close to something. I'm thinking he's close to both Lost island and the freckage, but it will be the freckage that he finds.

Jess/Ange-
I just sent the images of the night sky from the Sunda Trench in an email.

***Hey, there is an update tonight? I thought the story continued Friday at 9 Eastern Time?***

lost2010 said...

I agree twinkle. If that isn't the time period, why make a point of ending the game 2 hours before the premiere?

Twinkle said...

Here is the possible timeline again which puts Sam on the water near the Sunday Trench possibly at the same time as the hatch explosion.

Late November - Sam is on the Christiane 1.

Early Dec - The freckage of flight 815 is found, theoretically by the Christiane 1.

Dec 12th - Cooper is on the island. He eventually says that they found the wreck of flight 815. No clue how long it took to transport him there. His testimony sounded like it had happened a while before his "accident." Lostpedia does not note a difference between his and Naomi's testimony but someone posted their actual lines and they are different.

Dec 17th - Naomi parachutes to the island. She reports the next day that the flight 815 "wreckage had been found off the coast of Bali in an ocean trench four miles down." Any word of robots on the Christiane 1?

Dec 23rd - Penny talks to Charlie and knows of no boat.

Hafta say that getting the name of the likely place of the listening outpost the same night as Sam seeing the light is the most convincing argument (although only circumstantial) that Sam saw the after effects of the hatch exploding.

Twinkle said...

TETM: The next video will be in 26 hrs according to find815 but we've been getting e-mails and such in between. Based on "My Progress" it will probably be a website and two e-mails.

Ok just checked again on hubby's star program. Ursa Major would be (fully) visible at the Sunda Trench between February 6th and May 5th.

Also wouldn't it be cool if the Christiane 1 is the boat Penny contracts with after she talks to Charlie? We know her family has a connection to the boat and she's probably been on the ship before (Penny's book). What if the book was not to point to a significant time she was on it in the past but was to point us to her being on it in the future?

Hi Scoutpost and thanks those pics are GREAT! I uploaded them and folks can view the Sunda Trench night sky Dec. '04 pics here.

Theendtimesmeter: There are updates each night at 9:00 pm (eastern time) the countdown seems to only be for videos or activities. Per your blog, I'm sure it's lovely, but one post is plenty :D.

Memphish,

I to say thanks for the access granted stuff. SOmeone should tell Damon and Carlton the stuff we found out about Polar Bears, since they can swim 20 to 30 miles in on attempt without any problem... lol

Still reading.

Sorry about the two posts ange, I hit the button to publish twice by accident, I do that alot!

But do visit the site!

Twinkle,
there is a lot of logic in what you say. However, it still does not get us around the dilemma of the island location which, according to Desmond and Rousseau, lies between Fiji and Tahiti.
It's a conundrum.

Twinkle said...

I finally looked it up on the map, oodles. I see what you mean. Conundrum indeed. But the Black Rock went the wrong way so....

Wouldn't Ockham's razor (LOL!) say that despite the problem with the east/west conundrum, if it fits the rest of the facts, then it probably is true?

Carol Dunstan said...

ok, here's something that just jumped out to me but is probably nothing. In the plotting game yesterday two locations are given a negative latitude, and the other three positive latitudes. But the three positive latitudes are further south than the negative ones. It's like south is north and north is south... except the zero point isn't the equator, LOL

Joseph Finchum said...

Twinkle,

I have to disagree with Sam seeing the Hatch explode for one simple reason. The Hatch exploded mid day, the sun was directly overhead. Unless there is some strange time thing going on, on he island (which has been suggested) in which inside the Snowglobe it is day, and outside it is night, but that seems very unlikely.

oodles said...

Twinkle,
um...yes..."selecting the theory that introduces the fewest assumptions and postulates the fewest entities"...
problem is we have to make so many ****** assumptions no matter which theory we follow. SIGH
For my part I'll stick with the "between Fiji and Tahiti" location for the time being. It would appear the most straightforward determination and fits with the flight path, flying time, turnaround etc.

maven said...

The LOST with explanations idea is great! Thanks, Memphish, for letting us know.

I'm in the camp that what Sam saw in the night sky could be the "afterglow" of the hatch explosion with happened earlier in the day. The time line synopsis as laid out by Twinkle does seem to place Sam on the Christiane I in late Nov. This gets me even more sure that we're going to see this ship in S4.I don't think that Penny is on the Christiane because I still think she was in an office setting monitoring signals. The inclusion of Camp Millar and the green glow seems to fit. This also seems to point to the coordinates Sam's been given in the emails leads to the freckage and not the island.

Carol Dunstan said...

I too still can't accept the suggestion that the island is around Bali. But I did see an explaination for hwo teh green fog could possibly be related to the hatch blowing, it was something about linger or residual stuff... it was a theory put forward by Team Game Brazil

Patch said...

I'm still of the opinion that the island is in the Pacific Ocean, so I don't think Sam will find it near Bali, but I think he may find some interesting wreckage there. I don't think the glow in the sky is related to the hatch blowing up.

ular97 said...

I don't think the island is around Bali, unless it is under Bali..said tongue in cheek..I think that is the area for the phony wreck. Also, just for general information,Bali or Jakarta and Papua are not right beside each other, it is a pretty long flight from one to the other. However if you can fly straight from Papua to Darwin Australia, it only takes less than an hour, usually about half hour.

ular97 said...

Okay, I know why the island can't be located! It is a man made island floating around on pontoons.
Yes, I know I dove off the deep end of it too. Guess I am just getting to much information to assimilate it all and I am turning into a blonde!

Patch said...

LOL Ular. :)

I think what Sam is seeing is a bit of the Aurora Australis. The Aurora can occasionally be seen from temperate zones when a strong magnetic storm temporarily expands the auroral oval.
Geomagnetic storms that ignite auroras actually happen more often during the months around the equinoxes, which fits with Sam's pre-christmas timeline as the Summer equinox is 21st-22nd of December down here.

ular97 said...

The area around Bali, Papua, Surabya, Suluwasi...that whole area is never a really cold climate. Even in the mountains of Papua the temp. averages 50's all year. By the way, do geomagnetic storms come with lightening? There is some very intense lightening storms over there.

Lets try that again...

Working on post, but I just have to jump in and say YAY KYLE!!!!

Patch said...

The Aurora Australis can occasionally be seen as far north as Brisbane, so maybe 300 kilometres south of Bali is not out of the question.

Carol Dunstan said...

path, I think you'll find it was the solstice that occured 21st/22nd December ;) equinox = equal day and night

Carol Dunstan said...

yeah I noticed they used the same pic for the Aurora Australis that Kyle used earlier, but I'm sure I saw that yesterday on something someone else linked to

Patch said...

Oh! 'Bangs head', you're right Carol.

memphish said...

In terms of timeline, Cooper was probably brought to the Island pre-purpling because Damon and Carlton confirmed in Access Granted that the Others brought him there, and post-purpling Tom and Mikhail both think you can't return to the Island because they think the sonar buoy signal is offline. Now that may be a lie by Ben, but if it is, I don't know who other than Ben is in on it to go retrieve Cooper.

Patch said...

Yay Kyle too!! :)

Psst, what's Kyle done? *lol*

maven said...

Ew, the suspense!

Patch said...

What about Richard? He seems to be able to travel to and from the island.

memphish said...

So has anyone seen any good theories as to why these webpages usually have images not loaded? And some of the time they have some loaded and some not, like tonight's. It just seems strange given the jpeg nature of the files. And if it's the magnetic interference, I'm over that already.

memphish said...

Patch, it could be Richard who is "in on it" with Ben, but that would mean they are both lying to everyone else. I'm not sure Ben trusts him or anyone that much post-purpling. BTW, the DVD commentary on "The Man Behind The Curtain" has some very interesting information about Richard. Definitely worth a listen.

ular97 said...

We need to stop thinking so hard. We keep finding their sights before they do. LOL

maven said...

Sam must have a spy over at Oceanic Conspiracies! LOL

memphish said...

I wonder who has created this "trivia track" to go with "Through The Looking Glass" that they are airing next Wednesday. Is it an actual PTB or some ABC stooge? In other words, will the trivia track be canon?

maven said...

Well, Tracey ties in the aurora that Sam saw with the monitors going bonkers. Time-wise, did that happen a day or two before the aurora? That would definitely tie in with the hatch imploding!

ular97 said...

For sure the is a mole at OC! Think we will get our new video tomorrow night?

Patch said...

memphish- I think I need to dig out the dvd's and have a session! :)

jess4ua said...

Okay, so Sam's email confirms that the island is NOT glowing all the time. Maybe Maven is right, and it just has to do with the hatch explosion after all. Hmmmmmmm

ular97 said...

I am going to go watch a not to interesting looking movie on SciFi channel. Something about an Atomic Tornado. LOL Beats reruns of I love Lucy.

Looks like you all were right about the Aurora Australis. Good job. Looks like my star chart theory was wrong. Ah well.
